In recent years, Bercy has given itself greater resources to fight against tax fraud. A new brigade of “super investigators” from the tax authorities took office on Wednesday 3 July.

Is it still possible to invest your money in the Cayman Islands or open an account in Switzerland? To catch its biggest fraudsters, France has just set up a brigade of “super investigators”. A tax police of 40 people who will engage in searches, spinning and wiretapping. They will have new means to fight against tax fraud.

11.6 billion euros recovered by France in 2018

For two years, 129 countries, such as Switzerland, have undertaken to transmit bank data to the countries concerned, in the event of the opening of an account by foreigners on their territory. A tax audit is then possible. Thanks to these devices, France recovered 11.6 billion euros in 2018. In ten years, money illegally deposited abroad has fallen by 34%. If these mechanisms bear fruit, tax evasion remains possible with more complex financial arrangements.
