“I am committed to fair taxation and to closing tax havens. Tax justice is the basis for the distribution of wealth in the process of globalization. Europe and globalization can only be successful if there is justice and social stability. In my opinion, this is therefore one of the bases for successfully continuing the construction of Europe. ”
On March 26, 2019, the European Parliament adopted the final report of the TAX3 committee, created to step up the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion. This text contains several measures to deal with financial crime, tax evasion and fraud, in particular by improving cooperation in all areas involving numerous authorities. It also aims to create new bodies at European and global level.
Failure or success?
“During the past five years, we have had a lot of success. We have done more than what has been done in the last thirty years. There have been real big steps towards social justice and against financial crime in Europe. We didn’t win but we made progress. ”
Why did you become an MEP?
“For me, Europe is the way to regulate globalization in an ecological and social way. This is why we must build and continue European integration, but in a democratic, social and ecological way. ”
