The post office, the taxes, the banks. Many French people feel that they have fewer local services. “Nationally, the numbers in all these sectors are down”, explains Justine Weyl on the set of 13 Hours, Tuesday September 10. “According to the unions, 737 post offices have closed for two years. 561 treasuries have disappeared over the past six years. There have never been so many drugstore closures ”, details the journalist.

No distributors impact small businesses

Indeed, 226 pharmacies closed in 2018 in metropolitan France. In banking services, there were 2,500 fewer ATMs between 2015 and 2017. “Without cash, it’s difficult to make small purchases in shops. Suddenly they also suffer. Tobacconists, for example, are 8,000 fewer than 15 years ago ”, illustrates Justine Weyl. State economies and consumption patterns (e-commerce and shopping areas) are the causes put forward.
