Income tax: winners and losers

Income tax: winners and losers

The lower income tax promised by Emmanuel Macron will mainly benefit the middle classes.

Income tax: winners and losers

This is one of the most anticipated measures among the announcements made by the President of the Republic on Thursday, April 25. The 5 billion euro income tax cut will not affect all French people who pay this tax. Concretely, to apply this reduction, the journalist Victor Frédéric explains in the 19/20 plateau of France 3 that “the first track of the government would be to add a new tax bracket below that at 14%, at 10% for example. He could also choose to lower the tax rates of the two lowest brackets. The objective of these two measures is to benefit the middle classes from the tax cut, a reduction which should reach on average € 300 per year and per tax household.

The better-off should not take advantage

This proposal only concerns “French people who pay taxes, reminds the journalist. A little more than 17 million tax households, and among them, Bercy wants to prevent the richest from benefiting. They target the 417,000 households which are taxed up to 41%“.
