Emmanuel Macron is committed to lowering taxes for the middle classes. The shortfall for the state budget will be five to twenty billion euros.

Currently, the income tax scale has five brackets from 0 to 45% depending on the income and the situation of the household. First scenario on the table to reduce the income tax of the middle classes: lower the first tax rates, those of 14% and 30% today. Another possibility: create an additional 5% or 10% tranche for example.

300 euros per year less

A limit will not be crossed. Income taxed between 41 and 45% so that the taxes of the richest do not experience any decrease or increase. A reform that could affect nearly 17 million taxable households up to 300 euros per year. Not sure that this will be enough to restore the confidence of the French. “It’s a subject of recurring frustration”, estimates Gaël Sliman, president of the Odoxa polling institute. The government will return its copy in June to make a decision by the end of the summer for cuts in effect from January 2020.
