This complaint led to the opening of a preliminary investigation, after the publication in January of a video investigation by Mediapart questioning its “fiscal patriotism”, we learned on Friday April 19th.

Mediapart had revealed that the artist has invested in hedge funds through tax havens in contradiction, according to the site, with its communication on fiscal patriotism, without evoking tax fraud. The investigation was based on documents detailing its heritage, which Mediapart had obtained. The comedian had claimed a few days after the publication of this video that all his savings were legally placed “And declared in strict compliance with tax law and duty”, without commenting directly on Mediapart information.

“Unmasking the sources”

One of Dany Boon’s lawyers, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, assured that this complaint did not directly target the online newspaper.“A complaint for theft, violation of professional secrecy, breach of the secrecy of correspondence and concealment of these crimes has been filed against X and not against Mediapart. I don’t understand why Mediapart feels concerned by this complaint ”, she said.

As part of this investigation, two journalists from Mediapart and the director of the offending video were heard on Monday by the judicial police, added the news site. According to Fabrice Arfi, co-responsible for investigations at Mediapart, this complaint has only one objective: to unmask the sources which allowed the online newspaper to conduct its investigation.

Dany Boon, who has “Refused to answer our questions for months, does not dispute any of the information we have made public in this video investigation”, he assures, but “He disputes the fact that we were able to make them public” and a “deliberately” chosen from “Circumvent press law to sue Mediapart”, writes the reporter on the news site.
