Bogged down in thousands of amendments, the Assembly’s special pensions committee had to end to its work on the main part of the reform, Tuesday evening February 11, without managing to sweep the entire text, an unprecedented situation.

Faced with the obstruction assumed by the La France Insoumise deputies who had tabled 19,000 of the 22,000 or so amendments to the program, it quickly became clear that completing the examination of the ordinary bill would be impossible. There were still 14,300 amendments on the clock on Tuesday.

The bill will therefore arrive in the Chamber on February 17 in the initial version of the government, without the small changes voted in committee. “This is a finding that I regret, that goes without saying”, recognized the president of the committee Brigitte Bourguignon (LREM), while ensuring that “work” accomplished “Will not stay[it] not a dead letter ”. The Commissionwill sit one last day on Wednesday to examine this time the organic aspect of the reform.
