Pension reform: progressive indexation that raises questions

This is the great unknown of the pension reform. How will the point value evolve? In December 2019, in a speech, Édouard Philippe drew the outlines: “We are therefore committed to ensuring that the value of the point is not fixed on the sly, since we will calculate a progressive indexation not on prices, as today, but on wages.“. As the pension system is universal, the indicator must take into account salaries in the private sector, but also civil servants or the income of the self-employed.

Everything is not ready yet

But two months later, the majority admit that everything is not yet ready. No figures or clues exist at the moment. For the opposition, the government is therefore improvising. The new index on which the value of the retirement point will be calculated should be created by INSEE (National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies).
