A global shortage of electronic chips deprives of deliveries a company specializing in connected objects, located in Hauts-de-France. “We made about 20,000 pieces in 2019, and this year, we will plan to make 5,000.“, precise Philippe Bonduelle, director of Decelect, about one of its products. No sector is immune to this shortage, since the automobile has already stopped certain production lines.

70% of world production operated in Taiwan

The famous Xbox Series X video game console is already out of stock, a few weeks after its launch. At issue: a worldwide demand for chips which has exploded, with for example the increase in the production of electric vehicles, or computers used for teleworking.

If the available supply is insufficient, it is because in this market, a Taiwanese player, TSMC,concentrates 70% of world production. The company is now under water. The government favors the path of relocation. Several million euros will be invested as part of the recovery plan.
