Controversy over a subsidy granted by the Pays de la Loire region to the Lactalis group

The global milk giant Lactalis has been granted a subsidy of more than 800,000 euros from the Pays de la Loire region. A big check for a business that is not in need. An expense considered staggering by the opposition at a time when the health crisis is coupled with a serious economic crisis.

lactalis

Lactalis, the world’s second largest dairy processing company, does it really need public subsidies to modernize one of its factories? The Pays de la Loire region granted it 840,000 euros to support the project to create a new unit for the production of powdered milk in Mayenne, with the result… two jobs created!

Since then, the opposition to the regional council has not been angry:

300 million profits

The Mayenne group, owned by the Besnier family, has a bad reputation, repeatedly condemned for non-compliance with the environmental code and fraud on milk, but also suspected of tax fraud. A group that made over $ 300 million in profits last year. But on the side of the executive of the region, we assume, with more or less success, through the voice of the vice-president Lydie Bernard who is also president of the food commission:

Gift certificate for some, support for an innovative investment for others. The controversy began a few months before the regional elections.
