How to help homeless people? Médecins sans frontières has set up a temporary clinic in Paris to take care of them and inform them of the risks.
In confined Paris, homeless people and fragile populations are omnipresent. They are looking for food and support. It is next to a distribution point in the heart of the city that Médecins sans frontières has set up its mobile clinic. The coronavirus is on everyone’s mind. A young unemployed delivery man has been feeling feverish for a few days: a consultation here is an opportunity to take stock. In two weeks, out of 50 daily consultations, around fifteen patients showed suspicion of Covid-19.
A requisitioned hotel
The patients follow one another, confide in each other. The listening is there, the diagnosis is made, but everyone leaves for the city. Doctors Without Borders’ Covid-19 special mobile team takes care of migrants, confined in a requisitioned hotel. They are 140 out of the 500 evacuated from the unsanitary camp of Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis). One bedroom has been turned into a doctor’s office, where nurses check for symptoms of reported cases.
