To get around the stopping of air traffic, some wealthy rent private jets for several tens of thousands of euros round trip. Others, yacht owners stuck at sea, did not hesitate to buy or rent an island.

Since the start of the coronavirus epidemic, very large fortunes have found a way to escape confinement. Private islands, jets … In recent weeks, many super rich have been looking for isolated refuges in the middle of the ocean whatever the price to pay.

In a way, the Covid-19 pandemic is a boon for the agency headed by Chris Krolow which claims 800 islands for sale and 250 for rental: “We have seen a 30-40% increase in inquiries to buy or rent private islands. People have never needed to travel so much and a private island is the best solution, especially for those with the money. ”

A rental night costs 40,000 euros, far from being a drag for big fortunes.When the airports started to close, we received many calls from customers who were on their boat, their yacht, stuck in the middle of the ocean ”, says Chris Krolow.

To get around the stopping of air traffic, some do not hesitate to use a private jet, i.e. several tens of thousands of euros for a long-haul round trip. Adam Twidell runs Private Fly, sees bookings up over 30% from last year: “People want to travel for two reasons. The first is for business and the second is family. We had, for example, families who contributed to pay for a flight to repatriate the grandmother. ” And it will take very long months before air traffic returns to normal.
