The movement of “yellow vests”, marked in particular by blockages of oil depots, leads to a breakdown of fuels in many stations. This Tuesday, according to a participatory site, more than 700 stations are experiencing situations of partial or total disruption.
This is a side effect of the “yellow vests” movement. The various blockages established around oil depots, which have the effect of disrupting the supply of service stations, are causing more and more shortages. As of 11 p.m. on Tuesday, 410 stations were in a situation of partial fuel failure and 320 total failure, according to information from the site, based on reports from motorists.
The French Union of Petroleum Industries (Ufip) confides that it is not able to precisely confirm these figures but notes numerous disturbances in the fuel distribution network. “The movement is scattered and very volatile. It changes hour by hour. Sometimes it is only the access to the repository that is made difficult. Sometimes they’re totally stuck. It’s complicated ”, explained to the Figaro a spokesperson.
Where are the points of tension?
Many service stations in Finistère, Côtes d’Armor and Morbihan were completely or partially out of fuel on Monday. From Sunday evening, the prefect of Finistère Pascal Lelarge had to take measures to restrict consumption “in order to guarantee access to fuel to the greatest number”. Thus, the maximum amount of fuel sold per day and per vehicle is limited to 30 euros for light vehicles weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, and 200 euros for heavy goods vehicles.
In Morbihan, the shortages are due “to an irrational overconsumption of fuel”, while “the supply of service stations is regular”, indicated on Twitter the prefecture, calling to use the pumps “only in case of real need ”and to avoid“ precautionary reserves ”.
At Le Mans or at the port of Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône), actions were also aimed at oil depots. This last blockage was criticized even within the movement of “yellow vests”. “The operation is piloted outside of us,” Chantal, one of the coordinators of the movement in the Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, told AFP.
